COMMISIONED by CHRIST 4 SHARING HIS LIFE/KEEPING IT REAL ADMIST THE LIES (II Cor. 5:17-21))

BLAST FROM THE PAST (old POST): HUMBLE ORTHODOXY/UNITED 4 CHRIST…..

Posted by Gabriel (G²) on January 29, 2008

(NOTE from GABRIEL: The post is an old one, but I thought that it’d be relevant to bring it up again since it’s not only one of my favorites but also one that I think is especially timely….)

How good is it to see when people are ZEALOUS FOR THE FEAR/PASSION of the Lord and UNITING BELIEVERS TOGETHER IN THE HOPES OF SPREADING THE GOSPEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Psalm 133

A song of ascents. Of David.

1 How good and pleasant it is
when brothers live together in unity!
2 It is like precious oil poured on the head,
       running down on the beard,
       running down on Aaron’s beard,
down upon the collar of his robes.

3 It is as if the dew of Hermon
       were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the LORD bestows his blessing,
       even life forevermore.

Psalm 16:3
As for the saints who are in the land, they are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight.

Psalm 19

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

 1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

 2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they display knowledge.

3 There is no speech or language
where their voice is not heard. [a]

4 Their voice [b] goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun,

5 which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion,
like a champion rejoicing to run his course.

6 It rises at one end of the heavens
       and makes its circuit to the other;
nothing is hidden from its heat.

7 The law of the LORD is perfect,
       reviving the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
       making wise the simple.

8 The precepts of the LORD are right,
       giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant,
       giving light to the eyes.

9 The fear of the LORD is pure,
       enduring forever.
The ordinances of the LORD are sure
       and altogether righteous.

10 They are more precious than gold,
       than much pure gold;
       they are sweeter than honey,
       than honey from the comb.

 11 By them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.

12 Who can discern his errors?
       Forgive my hidden faults.

 13 Keep your servant also from willful sins;
may they not rule over me.
       Then will I be blameless,
       innocent of great transgression.

14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
       be pleasing in your sight,
O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Psalm 115:1
Not to us, O LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.

Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

 John 17:20-23

Jesus Prays for All Believers

20“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: 23I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

Acts 4:32
[ The Believers Share Their Possessions ] All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had.

  Romans 11
Doxology

33Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and[i] knowledge of God!
      How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!
34“Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?”[j]
35“Who has ever given to God,
      that God should repay him?”[k]
36For from him and through him and to him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen.

  Romans 12:8-17
Love

9Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

14Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.[a] Do not be conceited.

1 Corinthians 1:10
[ Divisions in the Church ] I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought.

2 Corinthians 13:11
[ Final Greetings ] Finally, brothers, good-by. Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.

  Galatians 3:25-29
Sons of God

26You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, 27for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Ephesians 2

One in Christ

11Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called “uncircumcised” by those who call themselves “the circumcision” (that done in the body by the hands of men)— 12remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. 13But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.

14For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, 15by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, 16and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. 17He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. 18For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

19Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household, 20built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.

Ephesians 4

Unity in the Body of Christ

1As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope when you were called— 5one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

Philippians 2

Imitating Christ’s Humility

1If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. 3Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

Philippians 3

No Confidence in the Flesh

1Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you.

2Watch out for those dogs, those men who do evil, those mutilators of the flesh. 3For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh— 4though I myself have reasons for such confidence.
If anyone else thinks he has reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; 6as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for legalistic righteousness, faultless.

7But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.

Colossians 3

Rules for Holy Living

1Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

5Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.[b] 7You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. 11Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.

12Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

1 Thessalonians 5:11
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Hebrews 3:13
But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
Hebrews 3:12-14 Hebrews 3

Hebrews 10:25

Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

 1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

 1 Peter 2:17
Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.

 1 Peter 3:8
[ Suffering for Doing Good ] Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble.

Just wanted to share that with the rest of you, seeing how easy it is to forget how important it is to be brought into a PASSION FOR THE GOSPEL, but how POWERFUL IT IS WHEN BRETHREN ARE WILLING TO UNITE IN THE NAME OF SPREADING IT!!!!!!!!

What is often the case is that many times people will try to do the work of the KINGDOM SOLO, thinking that anyone not from the same group or theological stance is not to be associated. To a degree, they’re right…..because when it comes to the TRUTH of CHRIST, there will be divisions:

 Matthew 10:32-39

32“Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. 33But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.

34“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn
” ‘a man against his father,
      a daughter against her mother,
   a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law –
36a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’[a]

37“Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; 38and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

For a good study article on the subject, consider this:

http://cicministry.org/commentary/issue88.htm

However, what’s often the case is that people end up dividing over PERIPHEAL ISSUES and things that are non-essential to the Faith, forgetting that there’s room for disagreement ( Romans 14 ), THAT NOT ALL OF GOD’S FOLLOWERS WILL BE FOUND IN THE SAME GROUPS (Mark 9:37-39 ), AND THAT ANYONE PASSIONATE FOR THE WILL OF GOD TO BE DONE IN THE EARTH IS COOL WITH CHRIST…..there’s no ELITE with Christ, but ALL WHO OBEY HIM ARE COOL:

  Luke 8:18-21
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers

19Now Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him, but they were not able to get near him because of the crowd. 20Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.”

21He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.”

Acts 10

34Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right.

For a good view of what I mean, consider this:

http://www.carm.org/seek/denominations.htm

http://www.carm.org/questions/charismata.htm

As Brother Matt Slick said on the issue:

One Church teaches a pre-tribulation rapture and subtly implies that its doctrine is the true doctrine, rightly divided; other options are systematically looked down upon and indirectly division in the body of Christ is increased.  Another church teaches that amillennialism is correct and that anyone not believing in it cannot rightly understand God’s word.  Another church condemns the Charismatic gifts in such a way that you are left believing that anyone who is charismatic is without maturity in the Lord. It is not an opinion that is offered, but the “truth” that is offered at the expense of humility and love and unity in the body of Christ.

Do these teachers who “knowingly” teach that they have the truth say that their positions are opinions and that they are debatable and that the believer should study for himself and make up his own mind — even if it is contrary to the teacher’s position?  Do these teachers leave the listeners believing that the grace of God is also working in others with whom they disagree in the non-essentials?

Is not God the God of all Christians? Didn’t Jesus shed His blood for all Christians, even the charismatics, even the Calvinists, even the Baptists, even for those steeped in quiet tradition and liturgy, and even for those who weep during worship?  Yes, He did.

Where is the humility of teaching about the non-essentials and saying that it is possible that another position on them may be true?  When do teachers say that other gifted teachers see things differently…and that that is okay?  Unfortunately, those who focus on the non-essentials to the point of division in the body of Christ counter Christ’s own words which speak of unity and love. Am I right or am I wrong? Are we prideful in our hearts or not?

Pride, like humility, hides itself in its host so that it cannot be seen except by others. Pride is in the Christian Church. We see it in the denominational divisions that are rampantly scorching the land. Instead of uniting in humility, instead of admitting that our own sinfulness is what has resulted in our inability to come to a unified belief in the non-essentials, we have simply proven that we all must be humble before God and live according to Romans 14:1-7,

Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions. 2One man has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats vegetables only. 3Let not him who eats regard with contempt him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats, for God has accepted him. 4Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and stand he will, for the Lord is able to make him stand. 5One man regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Let each man be fully convinced in his own mind. 6He who observes the day, observes it for the Lord, and he who eats, does so for the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who eats not, for the Lord he does not eat, and gives thanks to God. 7For not one of us lives for himself, and not one dies for himself; 8for if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.

Christians who disagree should admit to each other that the reason we disagree is because of our own shortsightedness, our own inability to rightly divide God’s word. All of us must and should admit that we can be wrong in these non-essentials. If we can do this, then it is necessarily true that the other person may be correct.  This is humility.  But, I know, you don’t believe the other person is correct.  Fine, neither does he about you.

Look into your own heart. Are you so confident about when the rapture will happen, or about predestination or the lack thereof, or baptism for infants or not, or altar calls, or Saturday or Sunday worship, or hymns, verses, praise music, or the charismatic gifts, that you will look down in your own heart upon a brother or sister in Christ for whom the Lord has shed His precious blood?  Or, do you love them instead?

Ask God to examine your heart and see if there be any prideful or hurtful way in it.

http://www.carm.org/church/prideinthechurch.htm

Enough said……………..LET US ALL BE PASSIONATE FOR THE FELLOWSHIP/BROTHERHOOD OF ALL BELIEVERS, DELIGHTING IN THOSE WHO’D BE ABOUT BUILDING HIS KINGDOM & UNITED IN MAKING THE NAME OF CHRIST KNOWN TO THE NATIONS!

To give you some Examples of this,

 Consider this:

http://www.t4g.org/conference.html

All of these men, From Macarther (who’s a Cessationist) to C.J Mahanney/Joshua Harris (who are CONTINUIST/BELIEVING IN ALL THE SPIRITUAL GIFTS AVAILABLE FOR TODAY) AND VARIOUS OTHERS are there from DIFFERENT DENOMINATIONS AND THEOLOGICAL BACKGROUNDS…….and many sharply disagree on many points, and yet they’re willing to UNITE, learn from ONE ANOTHER, & KEEP THE MAIN THING THE MAIN THING: THE FOCUS OF THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST

For another article on the issue (and more in-depth explanations as to what the main differences often are between believers in choosing not to work together), consider this  (which deals with the issue of Charismatics/CESSATIONISTS…with one of the pastors in the article —-Joseph Garlington—being the Pastor of My Pastor:

For another SOLID EXAMPLE, Many of you, I’m guessing, have never heard of “Passion”…but to clarify:

Passion Conferences is a Christian organization (also referred to as the 268 Generation, originally named Choice Ministries), founded by Louie Giglio in 1997, known for their annual spiritual awakening gatherings of college students. The organization is also responsible for sixstepsrecords, the Passion Worship CDs, and the OneDay gatherings. The first conference was Passion 97 in Austin, Texas, and the headquarters are now in Alpharetta, Georgia.[1] The organization lists its purpose as “…uniting students in worship and prayer for spiritual awakening in this generation,” using Isaiah 26:8 as their theme verse: “Yes Lord, walking in the way of Your truth we wait eagerly for You, for Your name and renown are the desire of our souls.”.
Passion Conferences
are planned to go international as of 2008, as reported in Christian Today: “For the first time, the national Passion conference is making a global tour in 2008 after years of drawing tens of thousands of students to one national venue. Next year’s plan is to visit 20 cities across 15 nations in an estimated $4 million (£2 million) tour.”

I’ve know of Passion and Louie Giglio for about 4 years now…..and in the conferences I’ve attended, they have been ASTOUNDING. It was one of the events that THE LORD GREATLY USED TO GREATLY AID ME IN MY PASSION FOR THE LORD, and LIVING FOR HIS GLORY/NAME ABOVE ALL ELSE…..and I’m very grateful for their ministry seeing that they;ve done an EXCELLENT JOB of making sure they’re RELEVANT TO THE CULTURE and YET REVERENT AT THE SAME TIME. Though it’s sad that many people don’t even realize the impact that the movement has had for THOUSANDS OF YOUTHS/YOUNG ADULTS AROUND THE WORLD…..AND IT’S MY PLEASURE TO INTRODUCE YOU TO THEM!!!

The following videos are about 1 hour long each, but well worth the viewing, with Louie Giglio, Beth Moore, and John Piper being some of the main speakers involved.

 On LOUIE GIGLIO

Also, to show that these men are WELL AWARE of the issue of False teachers,  here’s a clip by John Pipier on Romans 16 and about WATCHING OUT FOR THOSE WHO’D LEAD YOU AWAY FROM THE TRUTH:

In case no one knows who Brother Harris is, here’s some info:

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joshua_Harris

Joshua Eugene Harris (b. December 30, 1974 in Dayton, Ohio) is an American pastor and writer famous for I Kissed Dating Goodbye, a book that advocates what he believes is a biblical approach to dating and relationships. He is currently senior pastor of Covenant Life Church, the founding church of Sovereign Grace Ministries, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He is the first of seven children born to Gregg and Sono Harris, pioneers in the Christian homeschooling movement.

As a teenager, Harris published New Attitude, a magazine aimed at fellow home-schoolers, from 1994 to 1997. He published his first book, I Kissed Dating Goodbye, in 1997. It has sold nearly one million copies worldwide.[1] Subsequent publications include Boy Meets Girl, in part describing his engagement to his wife, Shannon, released in 2000, Not Even a Hint: Guarding Your Heart Against Lust in 2003 (renamed Sex Isn’t the Problem, Lust Is in 2005), and Stop Dating the Church!: Fall in Love with the Family of God released in 2004.

Harris started and led Sovereign Grace Ministries’ New Attitude Conference for Christian singles from 1999 until 2004. While there was no conference in 2005, New Attitude was revived in 2006 under the leadership of Covenant Life Church singles pastor, Eric Simmons. The conference takes place over Memorial Day weekend, at the Louisville, Kentucky Convention Center. The primary focus of New Attitude is to equip young Christians with what they believe is the biblical truth of the gospel, while stressing the importance of the local church in the lives of all Christians. They have coined the term Humble Orthodoxy to represent these principles. New Attitude’s website describes “Humble Orthodoxy” as ” a commitment to believing, living, and representing the truth with humility. We believe that God’s truth in Scripture should not be redefined or reinvented to suit our own preferences or culture. Our role is not to change truth but to let truth change us.” Harris is currently planning to write a book on “Humble Orthodoxy”.[

This is what has been a Passion of My FOR THE LONGEST TIME…….because where you can have people PASSIONATE FOR THE TRUTH but who are SELF-RIGHTEOUS ABOUT IT AND NOT HUMBLE BEFORE THE CROSS/PASSIONATE FOR THE GOSPEL (as is the case with many discernment ministries, see here to note: https://emissary7.wordpress.com/2007/12/19/the-new-phariseeical-movement-in-the-club-or-not/, https://emissary7.wordpress.com/2007/11/09/relationshiplove-the-missing-threadfactor-woven-throughout-all-matters-of-faithdoctrine-part-1/), you can also have people who are PASSIONATE FOR BEING HUMBLE AND YET WHO DON’T TAKE A STAND ON THE TRUTH. (as it is with the Emergent Church for example….https://emissary7.wordpress.com/2007/12/19/pbs-airs-a-10-minute-piece-on-the-emergent-churchand-odd-that-pbs-gets-it-better-than-most-of-our-christian-leaders/) (OR CHECK OUT THIS LINK AS WELL, as it deals with the many valid reasons behind the Emergent Church but where it errs in the process,

    Two Kinds of Wisdom

13Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. 16For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

17But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.

    Matthew 28

    The Great Commission

16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

    1. Quick Note from Gabriel:

      Ephesians 4:1-6

4There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope when you were called— 5one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”

On one side of the coin, we shouldn’t be concentrating on what divides us (non-essential things, to note, like baptizing by immersion or sprinkling or whether or not you believe in spiritual gifts/the miraculous still being available today, etc.), and we need to remember what unites us together in God—Faith in Christ. Apart from that, how can we live lives worthy of the calling to spread the gospel or ever truly see how differing “gifts/viewpoints can help the church as it does God’s work‿? Apart from learning to enjoy the way that the “members of the body of Christ’s complement one another”, how can we truly be effective in serving the Lord? (1 Corinthians 12:1-31)

Moreover, seeing that Christianity isn’t a “private/individualistic” thing based and that it’s not about competition (i.e. thinking one’s gifting is superior to another) or exalting our gifting/self advancement (Philippians 2:1-11) but rather about using our abilities to serve the body, we need to appreciate/encourage one another in whatever attempts are made to do so

Since none of us are flawless, of course we need to walk in humility when dealing with issues of fault/sin (Matthew 7:3-6, Galatians 6:1-3), and we need to love other Christians in patience and gentleness (Ephesians 4:2) since Christ has done the same for us….not dwelling on our weaknesses or finding fault/starting conflict simply for the sake of doing so since Christ has forgiven us/been merciful to us when even we were unaware of our the dangers of our sin (Luke 23:32-34, Romans 5:6-11) and since we don’t have permission to not to serve/be merciful and love those who’ve sin when we’ve received so much mercy/kindness from Him for our sins first (Matthew 18:21-35, Ephesians 5:1)—to do otherwise would be a mockery of Him, the only one perfect enough to Condemn (James 4:11-12).

On the other side of the coin, however, unity for the sake of unity is not what we’re called to. To seek unity apart from being unified in the Spirit—that is, everything that is in line with the nature Spirit of God–that not what we’re called to. Moreover, whereas its’ one thing to not be in conflict with whatever’s non-essential, it’s another thing entirely to avoid be divided and have conflict over those which are (ex. joining with those who say Jesus wasn’t perfect, or not addressing those who believe that Grace is a license to sin!!).

Even Christ didn’t come to bring the kind of unity that “glosses over deep differences just for the sake of superficial harmony.” He himself came to bring division…the kind of conflict and disagreement that will/should come up for those follow Him and those who don’t (Matthew 10:34-39, Luke 12:49-53)

How in the world are we gonna reach the world 4 Christ by seeking simply to be unified when we’re not in Unity with the One sending us to begin with? If I’m not united first in Christ (i.e. all He stands for), am I’m not divided against Christ (Matthew 12:25-37)? If I maintain a worldly mentality and unite with whatever offensive to Christ, do I not make myself an enemy of Christ (James 4:4-5)?

If I try to “pick and “choose” with the Word or seek to be selective with any of His ideas I prefer/match my agenda….and If I overlook the price that comes with following Him, can I ever hope to be a true disciple of Christ? (Matthew 7:13-14, Luke 9:21-27, Luke 9:51-62, Luke 14:15-34)

In promoting/ignoring ungodly works from the Kingdom of Darkness (i.e. anything contrary to what’s in line with God’s Heart), what hope is there for me to even promote effectively or live fully for the Kingdom of Christ (I John 1:5-9, and I John 2:15-17)?

When it comes to the issue of false teachings and why many within the church say that the main issue is not unity, what many must realize is that part the main problem in the church isn’t lack of unity and it isn’t division—thats already been promised to be done by Christ for those who follow Him and those who don’t (Matthew 10:34-39) —the real problem is TRUTH….and the Church not being fully grounded in it. And if someone doesn’t call these issues of incorrect doctrine/practice, mess will continue and we’ll sink even deeper in it (1 Corinthians 5, Ephesians 5:1-17, I Timothy 4:16, II Peter 3:14-18, Jude 1:3-4)

    2. Something for all to listen to:

True and False Unity, Part 1
Presented by Bob DeWaay and Dick Kuffel
      Broadcast Monday, December 3, 2007
Philippians 1:27 describes Christian unity as “striving together for the faith of the gospel.” In many churches today, Christians who strive for the faith of the gospel are labeled “divisive” by church leaders who have refused to preach the gospel.

True and False Unity, Part 2
Presented by Bob DeWaay and Dick Kuffel
      Broadcast Monday, December 10, 2007
Philippians 1:27 describes Christian unity as “striving together for the faith of the gospel.” Part 2 of this series discusses “vision casting” in which a false unity under the personal vision of the pastor replaces the true unity of the faith.
