COMMISIONED by CHRIST 4 SHARING HIS LIFE/KEEPING IT REAL ADMIST THE LIES (II Cor. 5:17-21))

REMEMBER THE CROSS (and everything else that happened PRIOR TO IT): Examining the true meaning behind the phrase “Jesus SHED HIS BLOOD FOR ME””

Posted by Gabriel (G²) on December 25, 2007

Jesus shed His Blood for me…….”And though that’s a true statement, I believe that the phrase has been so ovesused that many people have come to not understand the FULL REALITY of what that truly means. Have you ever wondered why many of the pictures depicting the death of Christ seem to show Him as only having a couple droplets of blood trickling down His Face>? Or why even in the scenes where He was beaten, he still seems recognizable and somewhat alright? Honestly, I don’t think many people truly comprehend the true HORROR of what the Lord went through on the Cross…..and moreover, ALL OF THE HELL THAT OCCURED BEFORE THAT.

Isaiah 53

1 Who has believed our message
and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?

2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

3 He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering.
Like one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he took up our infirmities
and carried our sorrows,
yet we considered him stricken by God,
smitten by him, and afflicted.

5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to his own way;
and the LORD has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.

7 He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before her shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.

8 By oppression [a] and judgment he was taken away.
And who can speak of his descendants?
For he was cut off from the land of the living;
for the transgression of my people he was stricken. [b]

9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked,
and with the rich in his death,
though he had done no violence,
nor was any deceit in his mouth.

10 Yet it was the LORD’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer,
and though the LORD makes [c] his life a guilt offering,
he will see his offspring and prolong his days,
and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.

11 After the suffering of his soul,
he will see the light of life [d] and be satisfied [e] ;
by his knowledge [f] my righteous servant will justify many,
and he will bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, [g]
and he will divide the spoils with the strong, [h]
because he poured out his life unto death,
and was numbered with the transgressors.
For he bore the sin of many,
and made intercession for the transgressors.

1 Peter 2

19For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. 20But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. 21To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
22“He committed no sin,
and no deceit was found in his mouth.”[e] 23When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 24He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. 25For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Footnotes:

Therefore, I have taken the liberty of posting some of the series that my church did on the subject. I remember hearing of the information when I was only 12, and I kid you not, IT TRULY SHOOK ME UP…….and helped me to realize the COST OF MY SIN that MY SAVIOR TOOK UP. It’s entitled “The STORY: The last 24 hours of Jesus’s life before the Cross”.

I have also taken the liberty of posting this because this is the LAST TIME I PLAN ON WRITING ON THIS BLOG for AWHILE (AT LEAST TILL NEXT YEAR).There are some things that I realize I need to be seeking the Lord in currently and I need to therefore take a break from some things. So I WANTED TO LEAVE OFF ON A GOOD NOTE…..and with some powerful things for everyone to consider

Also, if interested, please consider investigating this book study which our church is doing. It is a book by John Bevere entitled “RESCUED”, ( http://rescuedaudio.org/)which is the graphic story detailing the mentality toward the Gospel that most Christians (including myself) have today. It details the life of ALLAN ROCKAWAY, who is the Pastor of a mega-church (paticularly, one which is “SEEKER-FRIENDLY”)….. who divorved his wife–OFTEN checking him on his messages for not teaching about things like sin/righteousness and otther things—– in order to marry the worship leader in his church , taught a “Seeker Friendly” MESSAGE to his congregation THAT exclusively taught on GRACE (and neglected the other Scriptures indicating the need for God’s people to be HOLY/SET APART FOR HIM)…….& later died in an accident only to realize the reality of the JUDGEMENT OF GOD.

Truly, the book was one of the most powerful books I’ve ever read and it really stirred me to check myself, seeing what version of Christianity I was in line with, and to realize the REASON WHY THERE’S NO HOPE TO SURVIVE THE JUDGEMENT WITHOUT GOD’S MERCY & THE SHED BLOOD OF CHRIST.

2 Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test

As a reminder, this of course is the Christmas Season & the time where gifts are bought for one another….in gratitude for who they are/the desire to bless others just as our Lord has blessed us with the Gift of His SON.

Luke 2

The Birth of Jesus

1In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2(This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3And everyone went to his own town to register. 4So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

The Shepherds and the Angels

8And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ[a] the Lord. 12This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14“Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”

15When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

Nonetheless, although our first picture of Jesus is as a baby in a manger/GIFT FROM GOD, it must not be our LAST .

The Christ-child in the manger is the subject of a beautiful Christmas scene, but we must not leave Him there…..for the tiny, helpless baby lived an amazing life, died for us, ascended into Heaven, and WILL RETURN TO EARTH AS KING OF KINGS. Christ will RULE THE WORLD & JUDGE ALL PEOPLE ACCORDING TO THEIR DECISIONS ABOUT HIM…….and though that’s a bit sobering, that’s part of the reality of what Christmas is truly about.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

13 Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the whole duty of man.

14 For God will bring every deed into judgment,
including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil.

2 Corinthians 5:9-11

9So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 10For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

The Ministry of Reconciliation

11Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience.

2 Peter 3

The Day of the Lord

1Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. 2I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles. 3First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 5But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

8But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

10But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.[a]

11Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.[b]That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.

14So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. 15Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

17Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position. 18But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen
